A2096248Saturday, 30 January, 20212 years old-73 lbs. Berger is one of our longest residents here at Animal Care, having arrived as a stray on 8/05/20. Due to his not liking the company of other dogs, Berger has had a hard time catching the eye of potential adopters. He finally caught a break this month and went to a foster home, but unfortunately Berger was returned after just a few days in foster. After 5 months living in a shelter, you can bet Berger was happy and energetic to be out. Unfortunately, his exuberance resulted in knocking over a random child that ran up to him (no bite reported) but the fosters realized they didn't have the time to give him that he deserves. The fosters did report that in their home he was a very loving, affectionate, and "amazing" dog, that just needed some help being house trained again after adjusting to a new environment. Now that Berger is back in the shelter, he's really hoping to finally find his forever home with a dog savvy family that can give him the love and affection he deserves. Interested in meeting Berger? Submit an adoption application to: acadadoptions@broward.org. For general questions or to rescue, please contact: rescue@broward.org Berger wants to meet YOU! Each shelter pet is evaluated as an individual. The nature and urgency of each pet's rescue plea is determined based on the current state of their health and behavior. A2096248Thursday, 04 February, 2021Foster Update: Time Frame: 5 days Name and ID: Berger Foster Name and Phone Number: Jessica Fisher, 7863019775 How did foster pet do in car? He did good. He wasn't scared. He would bark at the cars sometimes because he was excited. He loves car rides, he enjoyed it a lot. How was foster pet around other people? He was calm. He didn't really react to people, he would walk by them. Sometimes he would be curious but that wasn't the norm. How was foster pet near other animals? He was good. He would react sometimes but he wouldn't be unmanageable. I would say no and tell him to come and he would come and walk with me. Did foster pet behave while you were eating? Good. If he was hungry, he would sit next to the table but he didn't try to eat our food or go into the trash. Did foster pet beg for food? No. How did foster pet accept treats? Yes. It was a very affective way to get him to listen and learn new commands and speed his potty training along. Did anyone show any interest in foster pet? Yes! So many people liked him, thought he was pretty and asked about him. He got a lot of attention on walks. Thursday, 04 February, 2021 6:57PMBehavior
A2096248Thursday, 04 February, 2021Foster Update: Other comments: he was very submissive. The first night he laid on his back and allowed me to rub his stomach. In fact, he loved that. He's a love bug, always trying to be petted and lay as close to me as possible. He was affectionate to me and by boyfriend, he didn't play favorites, good family dog. I would recommend adults only or teens, 10 and up. He was surprisingly very careful in the home. Whenever we played with him, he was careful not to run into furniture or make a mess which we of course appreciated. Although he was very energetic when we met him, he has a very calm personality and demeanor in the home. He likes to lay on the couch or be around the humans. I would've kept him longer but he has a lot of separation anxiety and he would act out by peeing in the bedroom. He would also try to find me by looking out the window and that damaged the blinds. So he needs someone who will be home most of the time and can help work through that. He's honestly a love bug and goes with the flow. He will make someone really happy. Also, I built trust with him right away. I fed him treats out my hand and his teeth never touched me. I would take toys out his mouth and the teeth never touched me and he never became aggressive for the toys. He was learning how to walk well. He isn't perfect on walks but the muzzle leash helped a lot. I don't think he was walked much but he will get it through time and determination.Thursday, 04 February, 2021 6:58PMBehavior

A2096248Tuesday, 11 May, 2021Date: 5/07 Dog Na/me and ID: BergerA2096248 Volunteer Name and Number: A.B. "Lunch" Location: Sistrunk Marketplace, Quarterdeck Las Olas, Lauderale, Riverwalk, Orchestrated Minds "Lunch" Duration: 6 Hours How did dog do in car? Very well, was excited at first trying to climb everywhere but after a good walk he laid right down How was dog around other people? incredible! very loving and friendly to everyone. Although he does seem to take to a person and latch on, which isnt a bad thing, but is very preferential How was dog near other animals? he wanted to play with the other dogs did not seem to be aggressive Did dog behave while you were eating? Did dog beg for food? mostly behaved, he did not beg for food, but a few times needed to calm him down How did dog accept treats? needs work, a bit too excited but with time and a family he will learn fast Did anyone show any interest in dog? One slightly, but did not seem like a strong candidate Other comments: When walking on the sidewalk, be wary of bicycles, skateboards, scooters and roller skates. He wanted to Lunge at the bikes, causing them to swerve. Overall, Berger is one of the sweetest dogs i've met, from the beginning he was friendly and wanted to be right next to me. He is a very excitable dog, but he has been in the shelter for a long time and he just needs readjusting to life outside. Berger definitely needs someone strong to handle him, unless they have a yard for him to roam, instead of walking. I truly think he is a loyal companion who needs a chance with the right family. A2096248Thursday, 10 June, 2021FOSTER UPDATE CONTINUED: response to this command is improving with every walk " General: Berger is not motivated by food or treats in any way. o Berger is very affectionate and sometimes this means he throws his body onto you and steam rolls you in a very endearing way (this doesn't bother us but we definitely understand how other families would find this behavior unacceptable but it very much matches his 'bull in a china shop' personality) o Berger can be slightly aggressive with plush toys and stuffed animals so we are only letting him play with balls and frisbees o Berger is starting to cry each time George or I leave the house o Berger hates cats...like a lot but really hates things that quickly move toward him o We would like to get Berger to not vomit at night and not resist being put into the cage**** Any information/suggestions would be really helpful.
